Fort Belvoir Community Hospital
Located in Fort Belvoir, Virginia, Fort Belvoir Community Hospital is the first Department of Defense facility to be built using Evidence Based Design and Patient Centered Care Methodology. The 1.3 million square foot facility consists of 120 single beds, ten intensive care units, operating rooms, pediatric nursery beds, and 455 examination rooms. Envise performed complete building automation and controls services for the hospital, central utility plant, and attached medical office buildings.
Through a collaborative effort to educate the client on the options available, Envise was able to implement a more flexible and agile building management system. The building management system solution Envise developed for the hospital’s central utility plant and its carrier chillers, boilers, chilled and condenser water pumps, and cooling towers included 3,500 temperature control zones with 4,000 controllers and over 30,000 control points.
By getting the heat recovery chiller to work in conjunction with the main centrifugal chillers, the solution Envise delivered resulted in higher energy efficiency for the facility. The hospital successfully achieved LEED-Silver certification due in large part to the state-of-the-art, energy efficient building management system Envise designed. Envise continues to work with Fort Belvoir Community Hospital through a building automation maintenance service agreement.
