The Google Spruce Goose project entailed the challenging construction of a four-story “building within a building” inside the existing 1940s airplane hangar structure in the heart of the southern California tech industry, commonly referred to as Silicon Beach. Envise’s scope including a building automation system, an integrated smoke control system, commissioning controls and a mechanical preventative maintenance service agreement.
The success of the project began when Envise was able to convince the owner to allow Delta Controls as an alternate to Automated Logic, Google’s standard specification. This resulted in Envise unseating the incumbent controls subcontractor and winning the job. Envise’s solution-focused approach was a major contributing factor to delivering a fully functional system on schedule that, in turn, allowed for the owner to receive the certificate of occupancy on time. This approach contributed to Envise securing service agreements for both the controls and mechanical systems and then later being awarded the second phase construction of the soundstage and YouTube studio.
